SJMAG’s presentations are held at various locations in downtown San Jose include professional-quality productions of well-established playwrights (i.e. Samm-Art Williams, August Wilson, Pearl Cleage, George C. Wolfe); and outstanding performers who attract African-American, Latino, and women audiences. In 2002-03, SJMAG began including a production by a nationally known artist or ensemble. The first was a solo performance piece by former San Francisco Mime Troupe actor Barry Shabaka Henley, whose Hollywood film credits include Ali, Devil in a Blue Dress, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Rush Hour and Life. In 2004, SJMAG presented the Urban Bush Women, an internationally recognized contemporary dance ensemble. SJMAG co-sponsors these productions with organizations such as the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, 100 Black Men of Silicon Valley, and the Links. SJMAG has been producing quality theatre performances for over twenty years.
